A whole cosmos of colors and sounds: The wilderness of the Amazon, the largest forest area on earth, overwhelms with its beauty and biodiversity. Inspired by the magic of the jungle, the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos created a monumental symphonic cantata, from which the conductor Simone Menezes - also from Brazil - has put together a suite. The music is accompanied by images by the world-famous photographer Sebastião Salgado, who died in May 2025. His photographs not only show the fascinating flora and fauna of the Amazon, but also the dramatic consequences of human intervention in this unique ecosystem. In addition, Philip Glass' "Águas da Amazônia" - Metamorphosis is another piece that pays tribute to the rainforest region. An excerpt from "Bachianas Brasileiras" - Villa-Lobos' famous synthesis of Bach and Brazilian music - provides a lively prelude to the concert.
