Art was her life: Amalie of Saxony realized what was not a matter of course for women in the 19th century. In addition to plays and libretti, the Saxon princess created twelve full-length operas. After initial compositions in the Italian style, Carl Maria von Weber and his romantic opera ultimately had a formative influence on her work. Weber, who supported Amalie as a teacher, counted "the hours spent with the amiable and highly gifted lady among the most pleasant and intellectually stimulating of that time". Following the rediscovery and performance of "La casa disabitata" (2012) and "Elvira" (2022), the Dresdner Kapellsolisten under the direction of Helmut Branny are now devoting themselves to the two-act opera "La fedeltà alla prova", written in 1826. With her unique sense of combining language and music to create a special synthesis of the arts, this rediscovered work also demonstrates the Saxon princess's complete creative mastery.
