An operetta about love, longing - and what lies between the worlds. With DAS LAND DES LÄCHELNS, Franz Lehár has created a work that is one of the most moving operettas of all time. It tells the story of the great love between Lisa, a young woman from Vienna, and Prince Sou-Chong, a diplomat from the Far East - two people who are prepared to risk everything and yet fail because of the opposites of their worlds.
Lisa's dream of a life together turns into a journey into a foreign culture that both fascinates and overwhelms her. Different rules apply at the prince's court: Showing emotions is forbidden - "always smile" is the order of the day. What remains is the memory of a love that was stronger than reason and convention.
Lehár's music lets this story shine in all its colors: from exuberant romance to quiet melancholy.
"Dein ist mein ganzes Herz" - the legendary "Tauber-Lied", composed especially for the famous tenor Richard Tauber, became a worldwide hit at its premiere and is still one of the best-known songs in operetta history. With evergreens such as "Immer nur lächeln", "Bei einem Tee à deux" or "Wer hat die Liebe uns ins Herz gesenkt", he created immortal melodies that still touch us today.
Bühne Baden, as one of Austria's leading operetta houses, dedicates itself to this masterpiece with the passion that keeps the genre so alive here: great music, deep emotion and stories that touch the heart.
