A Viennese coffee house in 1938: between the smell of coffee, everyday stories and the sound of the piano, a family tries to keep its place in a world that is just about to lose its balance.

In his new singspiel EIN KLEINES CAFÉ IRGENDWO, Peter Lund tells the moving story of a coffee house owner and his family - a family trying to preserve their everyday happiness while a dark time begins around them.

The music is by Hermann Leopoldi, the legendary Viennese cabaret artist, pianist and composer whose songs embody the heart and humor of Vienna to this day. With chansons such as "Schön ist so ein Ringelspiel", "In einem kleinen Café in Hernals" or "Da geht's uns gut", Leopoldi wrote timeless melodies that tell of joie de vivre, wit and human warmth - and often provide comfort precisely where the world is falling apart at the seams.

In Kai Tietje's musical arrangements, Leopoldi's immortal melodies resound anew - lovingly gentle and yet contemporary - and combine with Peter Lund's libretto to create an evening of musical theater that links past and present: touching, lively and deeply human.

EIN KLEINES CAFÉ IRGENDWO - a new piece of music theater about what remains when everything else falters: love, memory and music.
