16-year-old Jamie New from Sheffield has a dream: he wants to go on stage - as a drag queen. While other teenagers are still searching for their place in life, Jamie knows who he is and what he wants to be. But getting there is anything but easy. Between bullying at school, his father's rejection and the constant question of social acceptance, it takes courage, imagination and plenty of glitter to stay true to himself. With the loving support of his mother and her best friend, Jamie discovers his strength - and meets a mentor in Hugo, a former drag star, who shows him how to present himself to the world with pride and attitude.

It tells of the challenges of growing up - and of the fact that sometimes you have to create your own stage against all odds. Inspired by the true story of teenager Jamie Campbell, who dreamed of going to his prom as a drag queen, the musical premiered at the Sheffield Crucible Theatre in 2017 and quickly became a sensational success. The acclaimed West End premiere in London followed in 2018, winning awards including Best New Musical at the WhatsOnStage Awards. The story of Jamie went around the world - as a musical, as a message and finally as a Netflix film adaptation (2021). A play that encourages, gives hope and shows that it's perfectly okay to just be yourself.
