Richard Strauss was only 19 years old when he wrote his rousing first horn concerto - rich in melody, radiant, virtuoso. A wonderful opportunity for Tonkunstler solo horn player Jonas Rudner to shine for an entire work. Chief conductor Fabien Gabel framed this touchstone of late Romantic literature with a work from France and a "London" symphony: In "Le tombeau de Couperin", Maurice Ravel once created a dance suite that is as charming as it is cryptic, taking a creative look at French music of the 18th century. And Joseph Haydn's 99th Symphony in E flat major was considered by one reviewer at the premiere to be "one of the greatest achievements of art".
