Ingolstadt - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Ingolstadt

They all want out. The outsider Roelle, who stylizes himself as a saint and, with his knowledge of the unwanted pregnancy of the convent student Olga, tries to blackmail her closeness. Fabian, who has fallen in love with Berta, his father's maid, who in turn is fascinated by the pioneer Korl, whom she refuses to believe when he brazenly protests that he is indifferent. And her friend Alma, who is trying to gain independence by prostituting herself on her own account.

These are the hottest days of a long summer in the oppressive confines of the Catholic province, full of dull, brooding energy that seeks its vents in the weakest places with cruel regularity. The violence in Marieluise Fleißer's INGOLSTADT wears the masks of religion, family, the military order, and sexuality. But its medium is language. The language contains the order of the world, which is called Ingolstadt; all possible ways out of it are contained and blocked in language. Marieluise Fleißer (1901-1974) is a unique figure in German-language drama of the 20th century. She was promoted by Lion Feuchtwanger, revered (and nearly destroyed) by Bertolt Brecht, and influenced a whole generation of post-war German dramatists.

After several major guest performances at the Vienna Festival, the internationally successful director Ivo van Hove is producing in Vienna for the first time.
