Glaube Liebe Hoffnung

with the collaboration of Lukas Kristl
1932. In the course of the world economic crisis, populist movements and finally National Socialism strengthened in Central Europe. Many people are unemployed. Also Elisabeth, a young woman. She has no money, no work, no husband. But she has heard that in the Anatomical Institute you can sell your own corpse, for science, when you die. But you get the money in advance - a mistake, as it turns out.

Elisabeth is referred to the legal provisions according to which the state does not buy "living" dead. In front of the institute, she meets a taxidermist who lends her money for a trade license, with which the young woman first pays a fine that is still due. The taxidermist charges her with fraud. Elisabeth is sent to prison for two weeks. After her release, she meets police officer Alfons Klostermeyer. He promises her marriage. In a police raid suspecting Elisabeth of being a prostitute, Alfons learns of her criminal record. In order not to jeopardize his career, he leaves his bride. In her distress Elisabeth goes into the water.

A young woman is the victim of a world full of brutality and loneliness in - as Horváth writes - "gigantic struggle between the individual and society, this eternal slaughter, which should lead to no peace".
