Reich des Todes

With REICH DES TODES Rainald Goetz is back as an author after a long break. He finally wrote a play again. The first since JEFF KOONS, which premiered in 1999. In 2015, Rainald Goetz received the Georg Büchner Prize, the most important award for German-language literature, and then took a break from writing.

In REICH DES TODES Rainald Goetz describes September 11th as the initial spark of the global social catastrophe, the effects of which we are not yet able to fully grasp. Goetz, who has two doctorates - as a historian and a doctor - also writes this play as a scientist, a fanatic of structures and numbers, relentless, unsentimental, analytical and yet still in his own breathlessness and full of wit. In a wide timeframe, he outlines global political lines of development and the protagonists in them. We are centrally staffed in it. Goetz does not point a finger at America. The director and set designer Robert Borgmann creates visually powerful amplifiers for - especially contemporary - texts with his rooms. Borgmann has already dealt extensively with Rainald Goetz, including: in his production of KRIEG at the Berliner Ensemble.
