Fidelio
The Freedom Opera by Beethoven as a prelude to the season 2018/2019. For the first time after 1922, FIDELIO is back on the repertoire of the Stadttheater. Thus, the Baden stage will pay tribute to one of the most famous citizens of the city: Ludwig van Beethoven.
ACTION
Don Pizarro, the mighty and cruel governor of a state prison, innocently arrests his harshest critic, Florestan, and wants to assassinate him for having compromising information about Pizarro. Florestan's wife Leonore - disguised as a man - went in search of Florestan. Under the name of "Fidelio" she is hired by Rocco, the jailer of the state prison, as a turnkey and hopes to discover her husband among the prisoners. Marcelline, the daughter Roccos, falls in love with "Fidelio", which in turn Jaquino, who is also in Rocco's service, is a thorn in the eye. After dramatic events Leonore really manages to free Florestan. The Minister orders a general amnesty for all state prisoners.

FIDELIO is considered to be the ultimate opera of freedom, sings the high song of unbreakable loyalty and love of the family and is now back in Baden after a long time.
