Othello - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Othello

Othello, a migrant, has come a long way in his new home in Venice. He not only made a brilliant career, but also married Desdemona, a beautiful and influential Venetian. This of course calls envious people on the scene. Iago also feels ignored during a promotion by Othello and wants to take revenge for it. But since he finds no approach to Othello to be able to accuse a professional or social misconduct, Iago forges the intrigue to accuse Desdemona of infidelity. And indeed, it is precisely in this way that Iago meets a sensitive point with Othello. Because no matter how well Othello has arrived in the new society, the basic trust in his environment is lacking. Jago's feeling of being reset and not being seen meets Othello's basic distrust of people. A mixture that almost inevitably leads to catastrophe.

Inspired by Shakespeare's famous tragedy, Reginaldo Oliveira explores in his choreography the human yearning for recognition and security and the abysses that arise when those needs are actually or seemingly trampled underfoot.

William Shakespeare's "Othello", written around 1604, continues to confront us today with the question of the origin of identity and how easy it is to destroy it. Othello himself says shortly before his suicide: "So speak of one who did not knowingly love, but too much; who did not easily jibe; but once he was touched by this passion, knew no bounds. "

In the autumn of 2017, Reginaldo Oliveira, as the new Leading Choreographer of the Salzburg State Theater with "Medea - Der Fall M." as part of the DIONYSIEN in the Felsenreitschule, gave his public and press acclaimed debut. For the first time, ballet director Oliveira has created a full-length action ballet for the audience of the Salzburg State Theater with "Othello".
