My Fair Lady - Schedule, Program & Tickets

My Fair Lady

The phonetician and die-hard bachelor Professor Henry Higgins prefers field studies. Nothing can make his blood so hot as the blemish of his mother tongue through the dialect! And he would not be a first-rate expert if he were not able to use his phonetic exercises to drive even a flower girl like Eliza Doolittle out of the last vestige of her dialect. Victory sure he concludes with his friend and colleague Colonel Pickering the bet that he can present Eliza the society after only half a year of speaking and teaching lessons as a lady. At the traditional Ascot Derby, she is finally introduced to the fine society. There she makes some delicious derailments, but Eliza keeps learning until she passes her ordeal at the ball in the embassy. Higgins has won his bet and the experiment is completed for him. Not for Eliza. With the new manners her life has changed as well. Finally, the professor realizes that his life without Eliza feels empty ...

"My Fair Lady" is a showpiece for the game time motto "We and the Others". Here, two worlds meet, as they could not be more different: the established Professor Higgins and the flower girl Eliza, who moves completely naïve in the upper class milieu. The play is an adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's comedy "Pygmalion", first performed in 1913, in which the sculpting king of the same name falls in love with a statue he has created himself.

Andreas Gergen is considered one of the most sought-after directors of music theater in the German-speaking world. From 2011 to 2017 he was Opera Director of the Salzburg State Theater. His most important directorial works include "I am from Austria" and "The Visit of the Old Lady" for the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien as well as "Victoria and her Husar" for the Seefestspiele Mörbisch. His works were to be experienced in Saarbrücken, St. Gallen, Berlin, Munich, Dusseldorf and Dresden. His staging spectrum, developed in Salzburg, ranges from "Carmen" to "My Silent Night".
