CONTENT
1st act
Manon, a beautiful young girl from the provinces, is said to be brought to a convent by her brother Lescaut. The student Des Grieux falls in love with her at first sight. Geronte, a rich old man, is also impressed by Manon and plans to kidnap her. Edmondo informs his friend Des Grieux of Geronte's intentions. After Des Grieux Manon confessed his love, they flee together. Lescaut assures Geronte that Manon will soon be fed up with life in poverty and will voluntarily turn to Geronte and its prosperity.

2nd act
Lescaut's prophecies have come true: Manon has left Des Grieux to live a rich life at Geronte’s side. However, she tells Lescaut, her brother, that Des Grieux's newfound prosperity could not outweigh her. Geronte shows off Manon in front of some of his friends. Manon is surprised by Des Grieux. He blames her for leaving him. When she begs for forgiveness, he falls under her spell again. The passionate couple have hardly been reunited when Geronte returns surprisingly. Manon laughs at Geronte, who then, swearing revenge, leaves. Des Grieux urges Manon to flee immediately, but she is unable to part with the luxury of a new life. Lescaut appears and warns them that Geronte wants to have Manon imprisoned. In her desperate attempt to take as many jewels, clothes and money as possible with her on the run, she hesitates too long: Geronte appears and has her imprisoned.

3rd act
Des Grieux and Lescaut's plan to free Manon fails. Manon's humiliation and shame now becomes apparent: she is to be deported. Des Grieux, who is almost obsessed with her, manages to get him to accompany her.

4th act
Des Grieux and the dying Manon are in a wasteland. Des Grieux goes in search of water at Manon's request. Left alone, she remembers her life and realizes her mistakes. When Des Grieux returns, she confesses her love to him and dies in his arms.
