Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera, Fidelio, received its first premiere three times: the first version was first given in 1805 at the Theater an der Wien, the second one about a year later and the third in 1814 at the Court Opera in the Kärntnertortheater - the version that has always been played in the house on the ring. In addition, the first version of the work will be premiered at the Staatsopern premiere - a rare and extraordinary opportunity for the audience to experience two versions in one season. This is how a direct insight into the Fidelio genesis succeeds: not only formal changes characterize the revision of Beethoven, but also in terms of music and content, Fidelio went through a comprehensive revision!
