With the four-part »Ring des Nibelungen«, Wagner created the most powerful coherent work in opera history from the spirit of early socialism in a creative process that lasted more than 25 years - a world-spanning, openly critical of capitalism parable about the irreconcilable opposition of power and love. The second part, often detached from the overall context and shown separately - "Die Walküre" - unites a large number of the most popular musical sections of the tetralogy such as Siegmund's spring song "Winterstürme gave way to the merry moon", the death announcement, the Valkyries ride or Wotan's farewell. The story tells of the failure of the hero Siegmund, who was intended for world salvation, and the hope of salvation that grew up at the same time through the apostate Valkyrie Brünnhilde, who opposed her father Wotan. The performance series brings five important Viennese role debuts: Martina Serafin as Brünnhilde (she sings Marschallin and Lady Macbeth during the season), Günther Groissböck as Wotan (he can also be seen as Fiesco and Ochs), who was celebrated worldwide in the German field Austrian tenor Andreas Schager as Siegmund, Okka von der Damerau as Fricka and Mika Kares as Hunding. There will also be a meeting and hearing with Camilla Nylund as Sieglinde.
