With the »Rosenkavalier«, which premiered in 1911, Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal succeeded in creating unique moments in opera history: from the Marschallin's monologues to the presentation of roses to the transfigured final song. The coloring of an invented Theresian Vienna should not so much invite a sentimental retrospect than allow a look into the kaleidoscope of human, even broken, worlds of sensation. In Vienna, the »Rosenkavalier« is part of the central repertoire to which the great performers at the conductor's desk have always devoted themselves. This can be seen in the current production, which premiered in 1968 under Leonard Bernstein. Philippe Jordan, who has a high affinity with the Strauss repertoire, has already directed a new musical production of the "Rosenkavalier" at the Vienna State Opera and has also conducted the opera in Milan, Berlin and Paris. As the new music director of the Vienna State Opera, he will now again rehearse the work musically and lead two series with exquisite singers.
