Loreena McKennitt - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Loreena McKennitt

For almost three decades, Canadian artist Loreena McKennitt explores the diverse aspects of Celtic music. Apparently effortlessly she unites instrumental as well as vocal perfection and emotions into a sound costume that enchants the listener. The passionate globetrotter finally presents herself to her fans in Europe after a five-year absence in the spring of 2017. From 17 March to 4 April, eleven concerts in Germany and Vienna are also planned. Loreena McKennitt has chosen a special trio format for this concert tour, which has already thrilled audiences in the US and Canada.

The acclaimed performances are made up of music and stories inspired by Loreena McKennit's exotic censorship of Celtic history. Songs are combined with mystical Irish poems by Yeats and lyrics by classic writers such as Shakespeare and Tennyson. The concerts also include material from her Grammy nominated album "Troubadours on the Rhine", which she recorded in Mainz in 2011. She is accompanied by two of her longtime musical companions, guitarist Brian Hughes and cellist Caroline Lavelle. The current tour project aims at intimacy and is interwoven with personal, inspiring stories. Trademarks are and remain her crystal-clear soprano voice and her versatility as an instrumentalist on harp, piano and bandonion.

"Hard to believe it's been five years since we last appeared in Europe. It feels like a long time, "says Loreena McKennitt. "Personally, I'm happy to share the trio performance and their special intimacy with the audience."

Loreena McKennitt's eclectic, Celtic blend of pop, folk and world music has sold over 14 million albums worldwide, more than 1.6 million of them in Germany. An amazing triumph of musical poetry. Her recordings have achieved Gold, Platinum and Multiplatin status in 15 countries on four continents. She has twice been nominated for the Grammy and has won two Canadian Juno Awards and the Billboard International Achievement Award.

As a musical ambassador, she represented Canada throughout the world, wrote film scores, and performed in countless major festivals. In 1985 she produced her first album with her savings and founded her own record label. Since then, she is one of the few truly independent artists to decide on song selection, production, design and distribution of her material alone.
