Antonín Dvořák's Rusalka is a true gem of Czech opera that has won over audiences worldwide. Fervent melodies, both delicate and dramatically extreme, the composer's masterful work of musical motifs and full-blooded orchestration, and Jaroslav Kvapil's fabulous libretto, reminiscent of K.J. Erben's simple but immensely powerful ballads, make Rusalka a work of captivating beauty that all listener appeals to age.

Rusalka was usually seen as "just" a fairy tale. There is no doubt that the fantastic story and the characters of the forest nymphs, the water goblin and the witch are of a fairytale nature, but Dvořák's masterpiece contains in its fairytale scenes an encoded profound message about the basic order of forces, elements, energies and passions in the natural and thus also human world .
