Peter Grimes, a fisherman in a village on the east coast of England, experiences the wrath of city dwellers when one of his apprentices dies in an accident at sea. When the next apprentice does the same thing, his close friend, the teacher Ellen Orford, loses confidence in him. Peter Grimes is an opera that raises more questions than answers. Was Peter responsible for the death of these boys? This question will never be answered, but this is not the focus of the story.

Montagu Slater wrote the libretto, inspired by George Crabbe's 1810 poetry collection The Borough.

This concert version premiered in 2017 in collaboration with the Bergen International Festival and the Bergen National Opera. It was also performed at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2017 and the Royal Festival Hall in London will be the next venue for the performance in Oslo. The title role is sung by tenor Stuart Skelton, one of the leading performers of this role today. Other contributors include the Bergen Philharmonic Choir, the Edvard Grieg Choir, the Royal Northern College of Music Choir and the Collegium Musicum Choir.
