White Darkness

Three-part ballet evening

Premiering June 3, 2023

The multi-part evening by the Semperoper Ballet offers an emotional tour de force through recent dance history. The evening begins with »The Second Detail«, a modern classic from 1991 by William Forsythe (*1947), who masterfully pushes the language of form and movement of classical ballet to the limits of balance and spatial orientation. With »Half Life« from 2017, the Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal (*1951) presents herself for the first time at the Semperoper with one of her energetic works, which appears to have emerged directly from a techno night. The conclusion is formed by the choreography »White Darkness« by the Spaniard Nacho Duato (*1957) from 2001, created out of mourning for his deceased sister. A requiem full of pain and devotion to a person who has lost faith in love and forgetting seeks. An intensive evening that celebrates dance as an expression of the will to form, joie de vivre and deepest compassion.
