In the last part of the tetralogy the horizon widens again: Siegfried expands on "New Deeds" and meets people who are dominated by the greed for power and wealth and who do not shy away from any means to achieve their goal. Without the help of the Brünnhilde who stayed behind, the hero becomes a victim of the intrigues at Gibichungenhof. But his fall also ushered in the downfall of this old world, which is still suffering from the curse with which Alberich had placed the all-powerful ring in the RHEINGOLD. Only the sacrifice of Brünnhilde, who has come to know, opens up a chance: by giving the stolen gold back to the Rhine and extinguishing her own existence through self-immolation, she paves the way for a new beginning. From the ashes of Brünnhilde, Wagner lets the love motif blossom musically, which so far has only been heard once, in the third act of WALKÜRE. At the end of GÖTTERDÄDMERUNG there is not only doom, but also hope. The game can start again - will it be different next time?

With its 13 solo parts, GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG is a touchstone for every Wagner ensemble and for the Deutsche Oper Berlin an opportunity to demonstrate the high standard and continuity of its Wagner care. The star soloists like Nina Stemme and Gidon Saks are joined by singers like Markus Brück as Alberich and Thomas Lehman as Gunther, who have already impressively demonstrated their familiarity with Wagner's musical language in other roles at this house in recent years.
