Already the contemporaries of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were aware that DERAILING FROM THE SERAIL was much more important than the genre name "Singspiel" suggested. Not only the patron, Emperor Joseph II, stated irritably at the Viennese first performance in 1784 the "tremendous scores", also Goethe was forced to question his own efforts for German-language singing in view of the resounding success of Mozart's play. Soon the ENTFÜHRUNG was regarded as the first German national opera: as the first successful attempt to oppose the theatrical affect language of Italian opera, an equivalent work in German. Above all, this concerns the emotional depth of the characters: in the extreme situation of the stranger, who isolates the couple Belmonte and Konstanze from all external social influences, Mozart succeeds in bringing the fundamental question of interpersonal relationships to music in an unconditionally musical way: I love the other Really that I want to spend my life with him? And do I know myself so well that I can make such a bond of pure conscience?

The ABSTRACT has repeatedly inspired important theater makers to debate - all the more so since its structure with the change of spoken dialogues and music numbers over textual arrangements is more open than through-composed operas. At the Deutsche Oper Berlin in June 2016, one of the most exciting, uncompromising directors on the European theater scene dared to make his music theater debut: The Argentinian Rodrigo García has achieved international success with pieces such as "Gólgota Picnic".
