Ballet De L'opera De Lyon

Jiří Kylián brings his personal idiom to the Liceu in a living legend that blends modernity and technique with beauty
The Ballet de Lyon brings us a selection of the most characteristic choreographies of Jiˇrí Kylián, a living legend of contemporary dance, in this daring programme which strikes a balance between the modern and the classical. The impelling music is by composers ranging from Heinrich Biber to Philip Glass, via Alessandro Marcello, Antonio Vivaldi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach and others. Kylián uses the rationality of physical exercise as his point of departure for exploring the spiritual dimension of the human body in movement. This is the course he takes in Wings of Wax (1997), which shares the bill with Petite mort, a subtly choreographed work premiered in Salzburg to mark the bicentenary of Mozart's death (1991), and Bella Figura (1995)
