A European theater project

The starting point for the piece research is the city of Salzburg, which in autumn and winter 2015 became a focal point for European refugee movements. The photos of people on the run, the improvised warehouse in the station garage, the children playing there, are vivid in the memory of the city's residents.

Nuran David Calis develops a phenomenology of lived charity: Who spontaneously decided to be there to help these people? Who tackled and forged alliances to unbureaucratically relieve and channel the onslaught of people in need? In preparation for the play “#Ersthelfer #FirstAid”, Nuran David Calis travels the Balkan route and conducts interviews with people who supported refugees in their emergency situation in 2015. There are people like you and me, with and without positions, politicians, employees of charitable institutions, ordinary citizens who have taken vacation to help. This creates a kaleidoscope of different experiences and personal stories, a network of human relationships in which what connects is stronger than what separates.

The play is a plea for the strength of cohesion in civil society. The production brings experts from everyday life and actors together on stage and is designed for possible guest performances in Europe along the Balkan route.
