The place is extremely remote. A desert, deserted island where ships sometimes get stranded. With Sycorax on board, for example, who had been persecuted as a "witch" and expelled from Algiers, and her son Caliban. Or with Prospero, whom his brother Antonio overthrew and abandoned as Duke of Milan, with his daughter Miranda. Finally, Antonio himself, who accompanies the king of Naples to Africa to his daughter's wedding and, on the journey home with his court, got caught in the eponymous storm. Prospero created this storm with the help of Ariel, the spirit of the air, in order to gather his old adversaries on the island, which unexpectedly appears quite populated. How are we supposed to live together in this place where everything seems possible, and who is to decide how we will live here in the future? Prospero seems to be pursuing a utopia, the overcoming of old antagonisms on the basis of a reconciliation with history - including his daughter's marriage to the Neapolitan prince - while the courtiers transfer their rivalries and power struggles to this extraterritorial place as if they were in Italy or had been only the slightest chance of returning there. At the same time, Caliban, who owes his rights to the island to his dead mother, joins forces with the underprivileged sections of the ship's crew to openly revolt.

Shakespeare's STORM is a theatrical fairy tale, political parable and philosophical thought piece in equal measure. The Icelandic director Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson showed with his EDDA in the Burgtheater two years ago that large-scale poetic-musical world designs are a matter of the heart for him.
